Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-05-23

World Heritage Tracker (“WHT”, “the app”, “we”) is a collection app for the 1,273 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It runs on iOS and Android (as a Capacitor app) and on the web. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app handles. The short version: essentially nothing leaves your device.

The short version

WHT has no account and no login. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Your visit records and any photos you add stay on your device.

What we collect

Nothing is sent to us. WHT has no servers that receive your data, no user accounts, and no way to identify you. Specifically, we do not collect:

  • Names, email addresses, or any account credentials (there are no accounts).
  • Analytics, usage statistics, or crash telemetry in the app (the website at world-heritage-stamps.com does use privacy-friendly, cookie-less Vercel Analytics for page counts — see “Third parties” below).
  • Advertising identifiers (no IDFA), tracking pixels, or fingerprinting.
  • Location data sent to a server (the map uses bundled coordinates of the sites, not your location).

Data stored on your device

Everything you create in the app is stored only on your device, using the operating system’s local storage:

  • Visit records and visit dates — kept in a local SQLite database on the device.
  • Optional memos and visit photos— photos are saved to the app’s private file storage on the device; location metadata (EXIF/GPS) is stripped before saving.
  • Settings— language, theme, and similar preferences are kept in the device’s local preferences store.

This data is never transmitted to us or to any third party. It is not backed up to our servers (we have none). If you uninstall the app, this data is removed by the operating system.

Third parties

The app bundles no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and shows no ads. Three things do involve someone other than us, and we would rather spell them out than let “no third parties” do work it cannot do:

  • Reference photos and descriptions are bundled with the app or fetched from public sources (Wikimedia Commons / UNESCO) under their open licenses (e.g. CC BY-SA). Attribution is shown in the app. Loading a public image may expose your IP address to that host, as with any image on the web; we do not receive or log it.
  • Travel links are affiliate links. A site page can show a “Find a tour” link to GetYourGuide that carries our partner id. Tapping it opens your browser and leaves the app; GetYourGuide may then use cookies to credit us a commission on a booking. It costs you nothing extra, we are not told who you are, and the link is labelled PR in the app. Nothing is sent to GetYourGuide unless you tap it.
  • This website (world-heritage-stamps.com) uses Vercel Analytics for aggregate page counts. It is cookie-less and does not build a profile of you. It runs on the website only — the iOS and Android apps ship without it.

Deleting your data

You are in full control. You can delete all of your visit records, photos, and settings at any time from Settings → data reset inside the app. Uninstalling the app also removes everything. Because we never receive your data, there is no server-side copy for us to delete.

Children's privacy

WHT does not collect any personal data from anyone, including children. Because no data is collected, transmitted, or processed, child-specific regimes such as COPPA and the GDPR “child” provisions do not apply — but our posture is the same for everyone: we collect nothing.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
